SD_Scientist I

OVERVIEW
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Scientist I (Contractor) to join a well-known client’s team in San Diego, CA. This role will support the development of a non-viral cell and gene therapy delivery platform, with a focus on advancing innovative nucleic acid payload technologies.
The Scientist I will play a critical role in designing and evaluating novel mRNA and DNA constructs, leveraging a variety of molecular biology techniques to support early research and development efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment, contributing to next-generation therapeutic development.

RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Design and clone expression vectors and IVT donor plasmids to support research programs.
•    Perform DNA and mRNA transfections in mouse and human cell lines.
•    Evaluate nucleic acid expression using qRT-PCR, luciferase reporter assays, and Western blotting.
•    Produce and validate in vitro transcribed (IVT) mRNA constructs.
•    Maintain accurate and detailed records in electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN).
•    Prepare study summaries, data presentations, and supporting documentation.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research initiatives and experimental goals.

EXPERIENCE
•    Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience in molecular biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field.
•    Demonstrated experience in advanced molecular cloning techniques, including Gibson assembly, Golden Gate cloning, and site-directed mutagenesis.
•    Hands-on experience with in vitro transcription (IVT) and nucleic acid handling.
•    Experience with functional assays such as qRT-PCR and reporter assays to measure gene expression.
•    Experience with cell culture and transfection techniques (mammalian cell lines required; primary cells preferred).
•    Familiarity with tools such as SnapGene, GraphPad Prism, and Microsoft Office is desirable.

EDUCATION
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline required.
