SD_Scientist I

OVERVIEW
We are currently searching for an outstanding Scientist I to join a well-known client in San Diego, CA. This role will contribute to the development of a cutting-edge targeted delivery platform by designing, preparing, and characterizing ligand conjugates and lipid nanoparticles. The Scientist I will play a critical role in advancing targeted gene therapy delivery systems, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to support innovative nanotechnology solutions with impact across the organization and broader biopharmaceutical industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Design, prepare, and characterize ligand conjugates and targeted lipid nanoparticles (LNPs).
•    Execute bioconjugation reactions (e.g., antibodies, peptides) with small molecules or polymers to support targeted delivery systems.
•    Validate and purify bioconjugates using LC TOF and ÄKTA purification systems.
•    Formulate non-targeted and targeted LNPs encapsulating nucleic acids using microfluidic or T junction mixing technologies.
•    Perform surface bioconjugation for targeted LNPs and support analytical assay development (BLI, fluorescence microscopy, ÄKTA).
•    Evaluate ligand and particle stability under various storage and stress conditions.
•    Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks and author SOPs in accordance with internal standards.
•    Communicate data effectively within cross-functional scientific teams.

EXPERIENCE
•    Extensive hands-on experience with bioconjugation chemistries, process optimization, and biomolecular reaction kinetics.
•    Prior experience in Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) development is strongly preferred.
•    Proven experience formulating and characterizing lipid nanoparticles using RiboGreen, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and Zeta potential measurements.
•    Demonstrated ability to produce consistent, high-quality experimental results in a fast-paced research environment.

EDUCATION
•    Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience or
•    Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience
in pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
(Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.)

TO BE A BEST FIT, YOUR STRENGTHS MUST INCLUDE
•    Strong proficiency in bioconjugation techniques and buffer formulation.
•    Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
•    Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional scientific and technical teams.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with Prism, JMP, or other analytical software is a plus.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex scientific data.
